How to boost your child’s self-esteem!

It is easy to relate to a child as an adult, forgetting that children have a delicate mind and are in a completely different frame than adults. The way you speak to a child has a big influence on their desire to understand and listen to you. You show them how you want them to react to you by the way you talk to them and others, and this shapes their self-esteem and inner frame.

When children misbehave or need discipline, parents and/or teachers are often concerned with how children talk to them and how they act. They ensure they have good manners and correct any bad behavior, but they don't really pay close attention to what they say themselves or how they say it.

Here are Five Positive Ways to Address a Child:

1. Appreciate effort no matter if they win or lose:

Applaud a child's efforts regardless of whether they win or lose: Whether a kid scores the game-winning goal for the team or kicks it out of bounds, applaud the child's efforts. The child should never be ashamed of him or herself for trying. As a child keeps holding back for fear of disappointment or failure, the child's progress would be hindered. One of the most valuable things one can give a child is encouragement.

2. Ban harsh criticism:

What a child hears from others about him or herself quickly translates into how they feel about themselves, and any child who feels good about him or herself is more willing to try new things. As a result, be patient when correcting a child. Concentrate about what you would like him or her to do the next time. Self-esteem aids a child in coping with failures and encourages him or her to try again, even though S/he fails at first, resulting in a successful outcome in the end.

3. Treat mistakes as building blocks for learning:

Don't be overly protective about your child. Allow them to make mistakes and coach them on how to better tackle the challenge next time. A mistake made by a child should be seen as a chance to improve rather than a reason to give up.

4. Focus on strengths:

Pay attention to the things that a child excels at. Acknowledge the child’s strengths on a regular basis. Encourage a child to strengthen his or her skills. Your acknowledgment and appreciation of a child's positive traits gives him or her the inner confidence to pursue and grow those characteristics further.

5 Show your love:

Make it clear to a child that you love him or her. Ensure a child understands that you think he's amazing all of the time, not just when he accomplishes amazing things. Showing a child that you love him or her is one of the most important gifts you can offer to the child as his or her life can be improved by showing that you love genuinely.
